AMAROUT

IMDEA ("Instituto MadrileƱo de Estudios Avanzados" - Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies) is the new institutional framework established by the Government of the Region of Madrid (Spain) to effectively combine and increase both public and private support for research of excellence in the region. IMDEA comprises a network of research institutes in areas of high economic impact, including: energy, food sciences, materials, nanotechnology, networks, social sciences, software, and water.

AMAROUT Europe is a Marie Curie Action (PEOPLE-COFUND) to foster and consolidate the European Research Area by attracting to Europe and, in particular, to the region of Madrid (Spain) top research talent. AMAROUT contributes with IMDEA to turning Madrid into one of the top knowledge generation regions in Europe. To accomplish this, during the next 4 years, the AMAROUT program will finance up to 132 researchers to join the IMDEA network of research institutes for one year (renewable up to twice).

Available fellowships for this cutoff date (incoming or reintegration mobility):
20 fellowships for experienced researchers
10 fellowships for very experienced researchers

The AMAROUT fellowshipsBoth "experienced" and "very experienced" researchers from any country (worldwide) can apply for AMAROUT fellowships at any of the eight IMDEA Institutes participating in the programme (Software, Energy, Food, Materials, Nanoscience, Networks, Water, and Social Science) in one of the following two mobility types: "incoming" and "reintegration".

"Experienced" fellows must have at least 4 years of research experience (full time) and a doctorate. (Only exceptionally applicants without a doctorate will be considered as eligible candidates.)

"Very experienced" fellows must have more than 10 years research experience and occupy a position at the research leader level (e.g., Professor).

"Incoming" fellows must be non-nationals/non-residents from Member States or Associated Countries.

"Re-integration" fellows must be nationals from Member State or Associated Countries having carried out research in a Third Country for at least 3 years.

The average level of gross annual salary received by AMAROUT fellows is as follows:
Experienced fellows: 48,775 euros
Very experienced fellows: 76,667 euros

The final level of the fellowship depends on the experience of the fellow and on the particular IMDEA Institute.

AMAROUT fellows will enjoy the rights and benefits provided by the Spanish Social Security System, including: full health-care coverage, state pension, unemployment compensation, and maternity/paternity leave.

CommitteeThe AMAROUT Selection Committee consists of eight Evaluation Panels, one for each of the participating IMDEA Institutes. Each Evaluation Panel is formed by the Director of the Institute, three members of its Scientific Advisory Board, and two external, independent peer reviewers.
Each of the participating IMDEA Institutes has signed a Declaration of Commitment to the "European Charter for Researchers" and the "European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers". Therefore, the Selection Committee will abide to the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability stated in these documents.
CriteriaThe main AMAROUT selection criteria is the candidate's demonstrated ability and commitment to research, as well as the match of experience and interests with the research theme and lines of the IMDEA Institute chosen by the candidate. Each candidate's merits shall be judged quantitatively as well as qualitatively. More specifically, the following criteria are considered:

Applicant's CV: research experience, publications, skills and competences, impact and benefit of this fellowship in his/her research career, consequences of this mobility in his/her career. Candidates with career breaks or variations in the chronological sequence of career steps are welcome.

Applicant's project: scientific/technological quality, originality, methodology, feasibility, relevance, and potential scientific impact within this Institute. Proposals that include unethical aspects or that inadequately deal with ethical aspects will be rejected. More specifically, FP7 rules on ethical issues will be followed.

Candidates will not be discriminated on the basis of gender, age, ethnic, national or social origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, language, disability, political opinion and social or economic condition.

ProcessApplications to the AMAROUT programme are evaluated in batches according to quarterly cut-off dates. The selection process and its timing are as follows:
after filing the application form, the candidates will receive an email confirming the reception of their application;
applications will be opened within 7 days of receipt;
applications will be formally evaluated within 30 days after closing the quarterly period of evaluation;
candidates will be informed of the outcome of the scientific evaluation within 44 days after closing the quarterly period of evaluation;
selected candidates will receive a contractual offer within 60 days after closing the quarterly period of evaluation.

Conflict Studies and Management Programme

The ‘Conflict Studies and Management Programme’ (CSMP) is a new programme implemented by the ‘Willy Brandt School of Public Policy’ in Erfurt (Brandt School) and the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD). It is addressed to Master’s students, doctoral students and senior researchers with an interest in conflict management in research and practise. The Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt is one of the leading public policy schools in Germany. Since 2002 the School’s Master’s programme is committed to training talented students for management and leadership positions mainly in the public sector. In 2010 the Brandt School launches a new research programme in conflict studies and conflict management focusing on (policy) issues relevant to regions of conflict. In winter semester 2010 fellows will start their research projects at the Brandt School and participate in developing the programme. Also in winter semester 2010 the first Master and doctoral students will enrol. The CSMP aims at preparing students who want to pursue a career in relevant organisations and seeks to produce applicable knowledge in the area of conflict studies.
This special programme is intended for highly-qualified foreign Master’s and doctoral students as well as senior scientists. The CSMP fellowships offer outstanding scientists and researchers the opportunity to conduct research with a focus on application at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy in Erfurt, Germany. The fellows will have a teaching commitment at the Brandt School of generally 2 hours per week. Furthermore, the CSMP scholarships offer excellent students the opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree or a doctorate within a specialised structured research and teaching programme.
CSMP Fellowships and scholarships are defined and awarded on a yearly basis. Each year, the fellowship announcement will indicate the specific qualification requirements and regional focus. The current offers are published under ‘CSMP Fellowships - Current Offers’ :

Fellowship and Scholarship Types and Duration
A - Master Students - Master’s Degree in Germany - 24 months (+6)
B - Doctoral Students - Doctorate in Germany - 36 months (+6)
C - Senior Scientists - Research in Germany - 6 to 24 months

Fellowships (Type C) are awarded for the length of the research stay in Germany agreed between Willy Brandt School as the host, DAAD as the fund-giver and the fellowship candidate.
Scholarships (Type A+B) are awarded for the normal duration of Master’s and PhD studies with an additional German language course of generally 6 months before the begin of studies.
All fellowships (A+B+C) will initially be awarded for a maximum of 12 months and can be extended upon application.
Application Requirements At the time of their application, applicants for CSMP Fellowships or scholarships must
be able to prove their outstanding study or research achievements,
Type A: have completed their studies with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Type B: have completed their studies or research with a Master’s degree or equivalent Type C: hold a doctorate/Ph.D., have proven research experience of at least 2 years in a relevant field and institution and be currently working in institutions of higher education or at a research institute; positions are open to outstandingly-qualified academics and scientists.
have an excellent knowledge of English; please provide evidence of this through the submission of appropriate language certificates (e.g. TOEFL: 550/213/80); knowledge of German is advantageous, but not required.
in general have completed their Bachelor’s or Masters’ s degree in the last six years (Type A and B).

Applicants cannot be considered if they have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application.

Ph.D. Scholarships in the specialisation areas of Finance and Economics

Job Description : BI Norwegian School of Management offers a four year Ph.D. programme in business administration. The programme features six areas of specialisation: Finance, Economics, Strategic Management, Marketing, Leadership and Organization in addition to Innovation and Entrepreneurship. We are pleased to announce seven Ph.D. Research Scholarship positions available for two of the areas of specialisation. One of the scholarship positions is funded through NFR. PhD Researcher in Legal Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a three- or four-year full-time PhD position, commencing September 1, 2010. The successful candidate is expected to work on a topic of legal philosophy or a topic that combines issues of legal and political philosophy. The salary for a full-time employment agreement increases from 2.042 Euro gross a month in the first year to 2.492 Euro gross a month, if a three-year PhD, or to 2.612 Euro gross a month, if a four-year PhD. The length of the PhD will be determined by the Department on the basis of the successful candidate’s previous academic degrees and level of earlier education. The position is open to candidates with a master’s degree or equivalent in philosophy and/or law, and an interest in working in a very active international and interdisciplinary research environment. Candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, a research proposal of 1000 to 2000 words, academic certificates, a transcript of courses taken (including grades), and two letters of recommendation.
