IMDEA ("Instituto MadrileƱo de Estudios Avanzados" - Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies) is the new institutional framework established by the Government of the Region of Madrid (Spain) to effectively combine and increase both public and private support for research of excellence in the region. IMDEA comprises a network of research institutes in areas of high economic impact, including: energy, food sciences, materials, nanotechnology, networks, social sciences, software, and water.
AMAROUT Europe is a Marie Curie Action (PEOPLE-COFUND) to foster and consolidate the European Research Area by attracting to Europe and, in particular, to the region of Madrid (Spain) top research talent. AMAROUT contributes with IMDEA to turning Madrid into one of the top knowledge generation regions in Europe. To accomplish this, during the next 4 years, the AMAROUT program will finance up to 132 researchers to join the IMDEA network of research institutes for one year (renewable up to twice).
Available fellowships for this cutoff date (incoming or reintegration mobility):
20 fellowships for experienced researchers
10 fellowships for very experienced researchers
The AMAROUT fellowshipsBoth "experienced" and "very experienced" researchers from any country (worldwide) can apply for AMAROUT fellowships at any of the eight IMDEA Institutes participating in the programme (Software, Energy, Food, Materials, Nanoscience, Networks, Water, and Social Science) in one of the following two mobility types: "incoming" and "reintegration".
"Experienced" fellows must have at least 4 years of research experience (full time) and a doctorate. (Only exceptionally applicants without a doctorate will be considered as eligible candidates.)
"Very experienced" fellows must have more than 10 years research experience and occupy a position at the research leader level (e.g., Professor).
"Incoming" fellows must be non-nationals/non-residents from Member States or Associated Countries.
"Re-integration" fellows must be nationals from Member State or Associated Countries having carried out research in a Third Country for at least 3 years.
The average level of gross annual salary received by AMAROUT fellows is as follows:
Experienced fellows: 48,775 euros
Very experienced fellows: 76,667 euros
The final level of the fellowship depends on the experience of the fellow and on the particular IMDEA Institute.
AMAROUT fellows will enjoy the rights and benefits provided by the Spanish Social Security System, including: full health-care coverage, state pension, unemployment compensation, and maternity/paternity leave.
CommitteeThe AMAROUT Selection Committee consists of eight Evaluation Panels, one for each of the participating IMDEA Institutes. Each Evaluation Panel is formed by the Director of the Institute, three members of its Scientific Advisory Board, and two external, independent peer reviewers.
Each of the participating IMDEA Institutes has signed a Declaration of Commitment to the "European Charter for Researchers" and the "European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers". Therefore, the Selection Committee will abide to the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability stated in these documents.
CriteriaThe main AMAROUT selection criteria is the candidate's demonstrated ability and commitment to research, as well as the match of experience and interests with the research theme and lines of the IMDEA Institute chosen by the candidate. Each candidate's merits shall be judged quantitatively as well as qualitatively. More specifically, the following criteria are considered:
Applicant's CV: research experience, publications, skills and competences, impact and benefit of this fellowship in his/her research career, consequences of this mobility in his/her career. Candidates with career breaks or variations in the chronological sequence of career steps are welcome.
Applicant's project: scientific/technological quality, originality, methodology, feasibility, relevance, and potential scientific impact within this Institute. Proposals that include unethical aspects or that inadequately deal with ethical aspects will be rejected. More specifically, FP7 rules on ethical issues will be followed.
Candidates will not be discriminated on the basis of gender, age, ethnic, national or social origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, language, disability, political opinion and social or economic condition.
ProcessApplications to the AMAROUT programme are evaluated in batches according to quarterly cut-off dates. The selection process and its timing are as follows:

applications will be formally evaluated within 30 days after closing the quarterly period of evaluation;

Conflict Studies and Management Programme
The ‘Conflict Studies and Management Programme’ (CSMP) is a new programme implemented by the ‘Willy Brandt School of Public Policy’ in Erfurt (Brandt School) and the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD). It is addressed to Master’s students, doctoral students and senior researchers with an interest in conflict management in research and practise. The Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt is one of the leading public policy schools in Germany. Since 2002 the School’s Master’s programme is committed to training talented students for management and leadership positions mainly in the public sector. In 2010 the Brandt School launches a new research programme in conflict studies and conflict management focusing on (policy) issues relevant to regions of conflict. PhD Researcher in Legal Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a three- or four-year full-time PhD position, commencing September 1, 2010. The successful candidate is expected to work on a topic of legal philosophy or a topic that combines issues of legal and political philosophy. The salary for a full-time employment agreement increases from 2.042 Euro gross a month in the first year to 2.492 Euro gross a month, if a three-year PhD, or to 2.612 Euro gross a month, if a four-year PhD. International Development Studies Scholarship
The SCG Foundation is pleased to grant up to 6 full scholarships for individuals wishing to study at the Master of Arts Program in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University for the upcoming academic year.
Please note that in previous years the scholarship was limited to full-time government employees or civil servants, but it is now open to non-governmental workers, students, and other individuals with a background in development, as well as government employees.
Eligibility (6 Scholarships)Scholarships are open to government workers, non-profit sector employees, students and other individuals with a background in development from each of the following Southeast Asian countries: Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia , Laos, Indonesia, Philippines.
Scholarship Conditions:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for MAIDS admission AND be admitted to the MAIDS program.
SCG Foundation Scholars are expected to graduate within the prescribed 12 month period (excluding the pre-session course). Students who are required to enroll in additional semester(s) will have to bear the additional cost of living and tuition fees.
SCG Foundation Scholars must not be employed - either part-time or full-time - during their studies/scholarship tenure.
Following graduation, SCG Foundation Scholars are expected to return to work for their home governments for a period of two years.
MAIDS Program Admission Requirements:I) Entry Requirements
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in the social sciences with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0.
Applicants should also have 2 years work experience in a related field. Mature students, junior to mid-level government officials with experience in development are encouraged to apply.
II) English Language RequirementsCandidates will be required to demonstrate an acceptable level of language proficiency. Applicants should have achieved an English language score of at least 6.0 on the British Council IELTS, 550 in the paper-based TOEFL, 213 in the computer-based TOEFL, or 550 in CU-TEP (Chulalongkorn University Test of English Proficiency). These three above-mentioned tests are the only ones excepted by Chulalongkorn University. Please also note English tests scores must be less than two years old at the time of application.
Please note that these scores, although a minimum requirement for admission, do not guarantee successful admission or completion of the program. The candidate should feel comfortable writing graduate-level academic essays and participating in class discussions in English.

This may be a paper written for an undergraduate course, a published academic or journalistic article, or another appropriate writing sample. Applicants should briefly explain - using a separate document - the context in which the sample was originally written, including information on the nature of the publication in which it appeared, and the date of publication.The objective of the sample writing is to assess the applicants' analytical and writing skills. The ability to write clearly in English – both for native and non-native speakers - is essential to fulfill the written requirements for this M.A. programme in International Development Studies.

Statement of Purpose: The statement of purpose should be between 600 and 1000 words, and include the following elements:- Describe your most valued experience or accomplishment.- Describe your research interests, and outline a tentative topic for your M.A. thesis. - Describe your career expectations (personal and professional objectives), and explain how the M.A. in International Development Studies at Chulalongkorn will help you achieve these goals.
Writing Sample: The MAIDS programme requires all applicants to submit a sample of their critical or analytical writing. This may be a paper written for an undergraduate course, a published academic or journalistic article, or another appropriate writing sample. Applicants should briefly explain - using a separate document - the context in which the sample was originally written, including information on the nature of the publication in which it appeared, and the date of publication.The objective of the sample writing is to assess the applicants' analytical and writing skills. The ability to write clearly in English – both for native and non-native speakers - is essential to fulfill the written requirements for this M.A. programme in International Development Studies.

Two photographs: Applicants must submit two recent one inch photographs.
Application fee: There is a non-refundable application fee of 800 Thai baht . The fees can be paid in cash at the MAIDS office, or deposited directly in the programme's bank account (see details below). If the money is transferred to the programme's account the applicant must submit a photocopy of the bank transfer receipt with the application. Applicants who are not in Thailand must pay the fee by sending us a $30 US “Bank Draft” only (US$26 plus US$4 for bank charge).

The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS)
The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) invites applications to its Ph.D. and postdoctoral programs. BIGSSS is an inter-university institute of the University of Bremen and Jacobs University and is funded by the German Excellence Initiative. The program provides close supervision of dissertation work within a demand-tailored education and research framework. BIGSSS is part of an international network of highly acknowledged graduate programs. It supports its doctoral and postdoctoral fellows in achieving early scientific independence and provides funds for the conduct, presentation, and publishing of their research. The language of instruction is English.

BIGSSS seeks candidates with strong academic abilities and a Master's degree (or equivalent) in political science, sociology, or psychology. Applicants with a degree in law, economics, or other social science disciplines are also welcome. We offer Ph.D. stipends of € 1250/month for 36 months, contingent on successful completion of each year.
4 - 6 Postdoctoral Stipends/Fellowships
We seek candidates pursuing English-language publication projects based either on their dissertations (by making findings available to an international audience through a book or journal article) or new research. Postdoctoral stipends of € 1750/month may run for between 6 and 24 months. The competition is open to candidates who have received a doctorate in political science, sociology, psychology, law, economics or other social science disciplines within the last 3 years and to those who can be expected to finish prior to commencing their postdoctoral stay.
